The GMDSS-EQP- Requirements
The GMDSS-EQP- Requirements has been the major concern for the sailors, marine transporters and everyone in the maritime field.

In the light of that pursue, the new IMO regulation for Area3 (A3) regarding the NBDP removal, replacing it with INMARSAT or Iridium announced at the beginning of year 2024 has been postponed till 2028!
The Main Change for GMDSS-EQP-Requirements:
Some changes introduced by the IMO for the GMDSS-EQP-Requirements are as follows:
- NBDP (Narrow Band Direct Printing radio telephone) is no longer part of the GMDSS-EQP-Requirements.
- NAVTEX is not mandatory where installed, functioning as radio equipment only when ensuring transmission of Maritime Safety Information (MSI) and search & rescue data throughout the voyage, irrespective of the operating Sea Area.
- The ongoing definition of Sea Area 3 (A3) has been changed to the mobile satellite services. Wherever the mobile satellite service is available and covering during the whole ship voyage route.
- A new Recognized Mobile Satellite System, Iridium, has been adopted in addition to the INMARSAT-C.

VHF with DSC w/ Radio telephone watch on channel 16: A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4.
DSC Watch Receiver Channel 70: A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4.
MF Telephony With MF DSC: A2 and A3 (INMARASAT solution).
DSC Watch Receiver MF 2187.5 kHz: A3 (INMARASAT solution).
Ship Earth Station With EGC Receiver: A3 (INMARASAT solution).
Duplicated SES: A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4.
Duplicated VHF With DSC: A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4.
DSC Watch Receive With MF/HF: A4.
Duplicated MF/HF Telephony With DSC: A4.
Receiver(s) for MSI and SAR-Related Information: A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4. (according to note no.3)
Float-Free AIS EPIRB: A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4.
Radar Transponder (SART) or AIS SART: A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4. (according to note no.1)
Hand-held GMDSS VHF Transceivers: A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4. (according to note no.2)
Automatic Updating of Position to all Relevant Radiocommunication Equipment (Regulation IV/6.5). This also Applies for Cargo Ships: A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A.
For Passenger Ships The Following Applies:
“Distress Panel” (SOLAS Regulations IV/6.4 and 6.6: A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4.
Two-Way-On-Scene Radiocommunication on 121.5 and 123.1 MHz From the Navigating Bridge (SOLAS Regulation IV/7.5): A1, A2, A3 (INMARASAT solution) and A4.

1. Cargo Ships Between 300 and 500 gt: 1 set. Cargo Ships of 500 gt and Upwards and Passenger Ships 2 sets.
